Here the site of today's Camden Lock Market is still labelled T. E. Dingwall Ltd's packing case factory and timber yard. Dingwalls opened as a music venue in 1973, and the market followed in March 1974. The former railway stables and horse hospital beside Chalk Farm Road later became Stables Market. The Roundhouse, an 1846 engine shed, is labelled a theatre and rehearsal hall. It closed in 1983 and reopened in 2006 as a Grade II* listed building. Camden goods depot took a Morrisons in the 1980s and is now St George's Camden Goods Yard. On the sheet, National Carriers trailer parking and the February 1970 foundations show what were then new uses beside Regent's Canal. Insurers priced fire risk from these plans, which were kept current by slips pasted over changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building. February 1970 is the latest dated correction on this sheet. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in September 1948, with a 1951 copyright date, and a South London key plan from the same group records corrections to March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Chalk Farm Road, Ferdinand Street, Hartland Road, Hawley Street, Jamestown Road, Oval Road, Gloucester Avenue, Gloucester Crescent, Princess Road, St Mark's Crescent and Regent's Park Road.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001279a_98e78a1a-bfe3-49a8-83d5-f22967e0c73f.jpg?v=1792149421
goad-london-407-nw1-camden-town-regent-s-canal-oval-road-1954-1970-old-map-p-9-001280
Goad London 407—NW1—Camden Town—Regent's Canal—Oval Road 1954 (1970) old map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 407 [Camden: Oval Road, Jamestown Road, Regent's Canal and Gloucester Crescent]

Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 407, covers Camden at Oval Road and Regent's Canal (NW1), and it follows one site through three lives. The former Gilbey premises beside Oval Road and Jamestown Road are labelled Shipton Automation's electrical-component workshops and warehousing. Their conversion as Gilbey House apartments in 1997 carried the site from drink through engineering to housing. The circular former Collard and Collard piano factory at 12 Oval Road is not named on the sheet, and it is now offices. The rest of the sheet shows Camden goods shed, the National Carriers trailer park, R. Deards Ltd transport contractors' garage and the London Borough of Camden engineers' depot. This reissue supersedes the March 1891 outline edition, which is marked obsolete and preserves Gilbey's industrial complex and Collard's piano works before clearance for trailer parking. Fire risk was priced from plans such as this, which were kept current by slips recording changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building. Vacancy labels by Jamestown Road, dated February 1970, are the latest dated correction on this sheet. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in August 1954, with a 1954 copyright date, and a South London key plan from the same group records corrections to March 1971. The premises of W. and A. Gilbey, the drinks empire that also filled the Roundhouse as a bonded warehouse from 1871, spread across the sheet, with the Collard piano works beside them. The sheet also shows the London and North Western Railway, which was absorbed into the LMS in 1923. Today Southampton Bridge carries Oval Road over the canal to what was Gilbey's wharf, where the Pirate Castle has stood since 1977. This edition, which is marked obsolete, records streets, building footprints and plot divisions with less occupancy and risk detail than the coloured plans. Insurers used those coloured plans to price fire risk and kept them current with overlays recording changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and new construction. A coloured replacement edition, reissued in August 1954 and corrected in February 1970, records transport uses and new occupancies, and the circular former Collard factory survives today in changed use as offices. The printed base heading is dated March 1891, and the replacement edition's 1954 reissue places the end of this sheet's regular updating at about 1954.
