There it was close to the garment trade it served, before its move in September 2023 to the new cultural and educational district at East Bank, Stratford. British Home Stores' chain collapsed in 2016, while Regent Hall, the skating rink that William Booth bought in 1882, is still a Salvation Army centre. National Provincial Bank's name had merged into National Westminster Bank on 1 January 1970, before the final corrections were made. In October 2022 Hanover Square gained the Elizabeth line's Bond Street ticket hall. Goad's plans were compiled for property and fire-risk assessment and updated with pasted overlays recording changes of use, altered layouts, demolition and new building. The latest dated correction on this sheet is October 1970. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in September 1952, with a 1952 copyright date, and a key plan covering this area, acquired with the same group of maps, records corrections to October 1970. Other streets on the sheet include Oxford Street, Regent Street, Hanover Street, Cavendish Square, Holles Street, Great Castle Street, Margaret Street, Princes Street, Harewood Place, Argyll Street and Little Argyll Street.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001098a_129654b1-65d3-4dfe-b3ae-f02b33844f00.jpg?v=1792148987
goad-london-17-ec2-midland-bank-poultry-old-jewry-mercers-hall-1942-1970-map-p-9-001187
Goad London 17—EC2—Midland Bank—Poultry—Old Jewry—Mercers' Hall 1942 (1970) map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 17 [Old Jewry, Poultry, Cheapside and the Midland Bank head office]

Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 17, covers Old Jewry and Poultry (EC2), where Lutyens's Midland Bank head offices, built in 1924–39 with strong rooms and extensive office floors, are now The Ned. Midland passed to HSBC in 1992 and lost its name in 1999. In 2017 the head offices were converted to a hotel, restaurants and a members' club, a conversion that gave a major banking building a new role in the City's visitor economy. Mercers' Hall was burnt out in 1941 and reopened in May 1958, while Grocers' Hall, gutted by fire in 1965, was rebuilt beside the Bank of England in 1970. The sheet also names the Commonwealth Savings and Trading Bank of Australia, St Margaret's churchyard and the Scottish Life offices. The plan was compiled for fire-risk assessment and kept current with pasted overlays recording changes of use, altered layouts, demolition and new building. Its latest dated correction is a vacancy note on Gresham Street, dated November 1970. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in November 1942, with a 1949 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with the group were corrected as late as October 1970 and March 1971.
