The artwork closely follows Ruth Taylor White's 1930s American tourist maps, so sampans, pineapple fields and palms now surround Pearl Harbor, Schofield Barracks, Fort Kamehameha and the Diamond Head battery, relabelled in Japanese. The author, a member of Japan's RIKEN institute who had spent eighteen months in Hawaii, recalls exclaiming \"They've done it!\" when the radio announced the attack. The reverse maps Kauai as \"The Fortress Guarding Pearl Harbor\". Published in Shūkan Asahi on 1 February 1942, it presents the attack's target through Japanese eyes. We have found no other example offered by a Western dealer.
