The sheet shows the St Bartholomew's Hospital in-patients department, nurses' home and swimming pool, which then made the district strongly institutional. The hospital saw off closure in the 1990s and was rebuilt by 2016. In Arthur Conan Doyle’s A Study in Scarlet (1887), Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson first meet in a laboratory at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. St Bartholomew the Great staged the final wedding in Four Weddings and a Funeral, while 41–42 Cloth Fair, which date from about 1614, are the City's only houses to survive the Great Fire. The headquarters of the insurers' London Salvage Corps, built on Aldersgate Street in 1960, was demolished after the corps disbanded in 1984. Former hospital buildings around Little Britain and Bartholomew Close are now Barts Square, completed in 2020, with homes, offices, shops and restaurants. Goad's plans were compiled to rate property and fire risk, and they were kept current with pasted slips recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in April 1950, with a 1950 copyright date, and it carries a latest dated correction of September 1969. Key plans acquired with the group were still being corrected in October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include West Smithfield, Long Lane, Cloth Street, Newbury Street, Middle Street and Cross Keys Square.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001107a_496abc18-0be4-49e8-981d-f4ae9fddb573.jpg?v=1792148999
https://www.antiquemapsandprints.com/fr/collections/st-bartholomews-hospital-in-patients-department.oembed
