At the time, Associated Newspapers' machine rooms, linotype departments and paper stores at Carmelite House and New Carmelite House made newspaper production a heavy industry on the River Thames. The presses ran until the late 1980s, when the paper moved to Kensington. Publishing keeps a foothold here today, though without the machinery, through Hachette's headquarters at Carmelite House. The sheet also names the United Newspapers premises, Temple House and Audit House. The Guildhall School of Music is shown in its building of 1886 on John Carpenter Street, which it left for the Barbican in 1977. Sion College closed its library and left the Embankment in 1996, and its building is now offices. The plan was made to rate property and fire risk and was kept current with pasted slips marking changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding, though none of the slips is dated. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in January 1946, with a 1950 copyright date, and the key plans acquired with the group were corrected as late as October 1970 and March 1971. The school moved east along the river in 1986, and its Embankment building of 1883, which still has the school's name over the door, became part of J.P. Morgan's office and conference complex. Unilever House, finished in 1933, is still Unilever's, whereas in the sheet's day the Spicers offices on New Bridge Street housed the paper makers taken over by Reed in 1963. The Blackfriars Station subway, Blackfriars underpass and slip-road overlays record the remaking of the riverfront road system beside the school and large commercial buildings. The station itself was rebuilt in 2009-12 to span the River Thames. The plan was kept current for insurers assessing property and fire risk, and it carries pasted revisions recording changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding, though none of them is dated. At the time, linotype casting and newsprint stores made Fleet Street a place of manufacture. The News of the World left its premises on Bouverie Street for Wapping in January 1986, and Associated Newspapers' Northcliffe House works on Tudor Street is now offices behind its retained facade. The Inner Temple Library, burnt out in May 1941, reopened in April 1958, and the sheet shows the United Society for Christian Literature nearby. The plan was drawn for insurers pricing fire risk and maintained with pasted slips recording changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building. The Press Association, Times Newspapers and the Observer, whose premises appear on the sheet, have all since left. St Bride's is shown in its restored, roofed form, which records the reconstruction rededicated in December 1957. The Foundation building, where the sheet records printing instruction and social facilities, survives as St Bride Foundation, whose library and print workshops preserve this vanished trade. Chronicle House has been demolished to make way for the new City law courts and police headquarters in Salisbury Square. The sheet also names the Unilever offices, the London Electricity Board substation and St Bridget's House. These working plans were made for property and fire-risk assessment, and they carried pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building.
