Gresham House, Palmerston House and the National Provincial Bank's Old Broad Street offices were cleared from 1970 for the tower, while the bank itself became National Westminster Bank on 1 January 1970. The tower was Britain's tallest building when it opened in 1981, and it is now Tower 42. St Ethelburga's Church, a medieval survivor of the Great Fire and the Blitz, was half destroyed by the IRA bomb of 24 April 1993 and reopened in 2002 as the Centre for Reconciliation and Peace. Hambros Bank, which was at 41 Bishopsgate until 1988, passed to Société Générale in 1998, and Barclays Bank and Kempson House are also named. The plans were drawn for fire-risk assessment, and they were kept current with pasted overlays recording new uses, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding. The sheet was resurveyed and reissued in August 1941, with a 1949 copyright date, and its latest dated correction is August 1969. Key plans acquired with the group carry corrections as late as October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include Wormwood Street, Camomile Street, Houndsditch, Outwich Street, St Helen's Place, Union Court and Clark's Place.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-9-001126a_784111a4-d1f1-43c6-8e09-5478820c6f4e.jpg?v=1792090100
goad-london-73-ec2-liverpool-street-station-great-eastern-hotel-1935-c1969-map-p-9-001131
Goad London 73—EC2—Liverpool Street Station—Great Eastern Hotel 1935 (c1969) map

Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 73 [Liverpool Street Station, Bishopsgate, Old Broad Street and the Great Eastern Hotel]

Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 73, covers Liverpool Street Station (EC2), the terminus of 1874 that is now Britain's busiest station, with 98 million passengers in 2024–25. The station was rebuilt in 1985–91 together with Broadgate, which now occupies the site of Broad Street station, itself closed in 1986. The Elizabeth line arrived beside Liverpool Street Underground Station in 2022, and in February 2026 the City approved plans for an office block above the concourse. The Great Eastern Hotel of 1884 reopened in March 2000 after Conran's restoration and became the Andaz on 16 November 2007. St Botolph Bishopsgate, where Keats was baptised in 1795, was damaged by the 1993 bomb, and Dashwood House was rebuilt in 1976. The Commercial Cable Company offices shown here served the transatlantic telegraph whose cables worked until 1962. Plans like this were made for fire-risk assessment, and they carry pasted slips recording new occupiers, altered layouts, demolition and rebuilding, although none of the revisions pasted on this sheet carries a date. Reissued in August 1935, with a 1949 copyright date, the sheet belongs to a group whose key plans were still being corrected in October 1970 and March 1971.
