The larger plan records the British siege and capture of Charleston in 1780, showing the city's fortifications, siege works, batteries, defensive lines and the concentration of naval forces within the harbour. The accompanying plan depicts the unsuccessful British naval assault on Fort Moultrie on Sullivan's Island in 1776, one of the earliest and most celebrated American defensive victories of the war. Together they provide a vivid account of two closely connected campaigns separated by only four years, demonstrating how dramatically the military situation in South Carolina changed between the opening and later stages of the conflict. Published in the London first edition of one of the earliest major histories of the American Revolution, just eight years after the fall of Charleston and twelve years after the attack on Fort Moultrie, these plans are encountered only rarely on the market and are appreciably scarcer than comparable Revolutionary War maps published in eighteenth-century British magazines.

https://www.antiquemapsandprints.com/fr/products/a-sketch-of-operations-before-charlestown-south-carolina-gordon-conder-1788-map-p-6-112061
