It shows the compact mercantile town around the Singapore River: Commercial Square (now Raffles Place), the Chinese, Malay and Bugis quarters, principal streets and churches, the racecourse, surrounding hills and plantations, together with harbour soundings. Following Jackson’s plan (1828), Coleman’s survey (1836) and Thomson’s plan (1846), it belongs to the formative sequence of published plans of the colonial town. Its landward detail appears closely indebted to Coleman’s pioneering 1829 topographical survey, while its coastal detail and soundings draw on Admiralty hydrography. The resulting miniature vividly juxtaposes the ordered street grid with paddy fields, gardens, mangrove marshes and sugar-and-cotton plantations at the still-rural margins of the settlement.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-6-112201a_4afee465-6e33-49d7-ac47-4b2def93c261.jpg?v=1787249435
https://www.antiquemapsandprints.com/fr/products/british-malaya-settlements-singapore-city-plan-penang-malacca-labuan-1856-map-p-6-112201
