Reproduced from the Ordnance Survey and printed locally by Stephen Austin \u0026amp; Sons, it distinguishes the hotel and its long rear yard as Lot 1 in green and No. 11 Fore Street as Lot 2 in red. The surrounding town centre is unusually well documented, including Fore Street, Market Place, Castle Street, Maidenhead Street, Shire Hall, Corn Exchange, public market, banks, post office, cattle market and the route to the Great Eastern Railway station. The former inn survives at 80 Fore Street as Grade II-listed Dimsdale House. Historic England records that it was formerly the Duncombe Arms and was renamed for the Dimsdale family, whose Thomas Dimsdale became celebrated for smallpox inoculation.
