The Tour was won by Italian cyclist Gastone Nencini, whose strength in the mountains and exceptional descending ability enabled him to secure the only Tour victory of his career. His compatriot Graziano Battistini finished second, while Belgian rider Jan Adriaensens took third place. The points classification was won by Frenchman Jean Graczyk, who also received the award for overall combativity, while Italy’s Imerio Massignan won the mountains classification. The race is remembered particularly for the career-ending crash of French favourite Roger Rivière, who plunged into a ravine while pursuing Nencini down the Col de Perjuret. It also featured the Tour’s first roadside greeting by a serving French president, Charles de Gaulle.

https://www.antiquemapsandprints.com/fr/products/l-itineraire-du-tour-de-france-le-miroir-des-sports-cycling-route-map-1960-p-7-028396
