Harris explains the method after meeting two Barapootsa men on the approach to the Likwa, or Vaal River, in present-day South Africa: a staff could be planted to distract the charging animal while the other hunters attacked. The plate illustrates this described hunting practice; it is not identified as a witnessed hunt at a precise site. Bechuana is the historical spelling of Tswana.
