The sweeping bird’s-eye view extends from Ischia and the Phlegraean Fields across Naples and smoking Vesuvius to Pompeii, Sorrento and the Amalfi coast, with Capri in the foreground; roads, railways, towns and distance tables make it both decorative and informative. The reverse forms an integral illustrated tourist guide, with a striking modernist colour cover, photographs and descriptive text. The sheet is undated. Although frequently catalogued as 1950, that date cannot apply to this state: it shows the Monte Faito funivia, opened in 1952, and the Vesuvius seggiovia, opened on 8 July 1953. The reverse still locates the National Picture Gallery in the Museo Nazionale, before its 1957 transfer to Capodimonte.
