The map depicts the Isle of Oxney, the sea wall and estuarine defences north of Rye, and a complex network of rivers, channels and tidal waterways within a landscape still shaped by tidal influence. It records the marshes before the later construction of the Royal Military Canal, which drained and consolidated much of the area, transforming former sea and river channels into low-lying pasture while leaving the Isle of Oxney as higher ground, though retaining its historic name. Originally published as an illustration to Harris’s History of Kent, the map is an important contemporary document of early coastal management and land reclamation.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0923/9583/1643/files/P-8-006583a_69cb6cda-0f38-469d-aadd-e3240d58d5e7.jpg?v=1770910949
https://www.antiquemapsandprints.com/fr/products/to-the-worshipfull-the-lords-proprietors-of-romney-marsh-samuel-parker-1719-map-p-8-006583
