The exceptionally detailed plan encompasses the nave, quire, transepts, Henry VII’s Chapel, cloisters, chapter house, Pyx Chapel, refectory, dorter, infirmary, abbot’s lodging, deanery and associated buildings. A colour key distinguishes successive phases of construction from the eleventh to the sixteenth centuries and later work. Hatching identifies destroyed fabric, while the ground tint marks structures believed still roofed when the monastery was suppressed in 1540. Scales are given in feet and metres, with a north point and heraldic arms. A foundational modern survey of the Abbey, it remained the standard plan for much of the twentieth century.
