Rummell’s celebrated college views are notoriously difficult to date: the original plates were rediscovered in the mid-twentieth century and later restrikes were printed from them, often closely resembling early impressions. This example, however, shows strong evidence of an early issue, notably the Elson photogravure credit, period paper, subtle hand-colouring and natural age toning.
