Hinton, John

John Hinton (1716-1781) was a London bookseller and publisher of "The Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure", which ran between 1747 and 1781; this was profusely illustrated with maps, including maps of the American Revolutionary War. Emanuel Bowen (qv), Thomas Kitchin (qv) and Richard William Seale contributed county maps. Hinton also published a series of road strip maps, of which some are atttributed directed to himself. he also published Stackhouse's "A new history of the Holy Bible" (1752)
