TITLE/CONTENT OF MAP: 'Spain and Portugal'

The map shows early Iberian railways. The map was produced a few years after the first railway in Portugal was completed in 1856, linking Lisbon to Carregado. The map shows this railway having been extended as far as Santarem. In Spain, local railways around Barcelona are marked, Madrid is linked to Valencia Alicante & Toledo, Seville to Cordoba, and there is a line running inland in incomplete sections from Santander.
