The depot was the London, Chatham and Dover Railway's Blackfriars Bridge station of 1864, and it carried freight until the mid-1960s. That ground records a River Thames freight economy that has twice been replaced. Sampson House, the Lloyds Bank centre of 1976–79, came down from late 2018, and the site is being redeveloped as Bankside Yards, with offices, homes and commercial uses around retained railway arches. Hopton's Almshouses of 1746–49 remain a recognisable landmark and still house older Southwark residents. Rennie's Wharf, the Service Wharves warehouses, Holland Wharf, Falcon Wharf and Walker \u0026amp; Whitehead's printing works then completed the riverside. These working plans were made to assess property and fire risk, and they were kept current with pasted slips. Here the slips detail depot and wharf occupancies, railway-arch uses and car parking, as well as Southwark Street premises marked vacant in March 1971, which is the latest dated correction identified. The sheet bears a December 1925 reprint date and a 1950 copyright date, and key plans acquired with the group were corrected as late as March 1971.
