Its introductory text quotes wine authority Leon D. Adams describing the region’s wine-growing climates as “the secret envy of the winegrowers of Europe,” and noting the industry’s transformation during the 1960s. The boast proved remarkably prescient: three years later the Judgment of Paris put Napa on the international wine map, when California wines defeated celebrated French labels in both categories. Signed M. Daijogo—probably Bay Area illustrator Masami “Sam” Daijogo—the map charts routes through Napa, Sonoma and the wider northern Californian wine districts, enlivened with grapes, harvesters, barrels and tasting scenes. Its flanking directories identify about 130 winemakers and give visitor information. More than an attractive period map, it is contemporary evidence that California’s wine industry already knew it had something exceptional—just before the rest of the world found out.

https://www.antiquemapsandprints.com/products/guide-to-the-northern-california-wine-country-pictorial-poster-map-daijogo-1973-p-8-007033
