The plate gives two close studies of the ewe's head, in profile and three-quarter view, with the curved horns and facial markings carefully drawn. Published in Emory's 1848 reconnaissance report, it is an early printed image of the desert bighorn of present-day Arizona, made during the Army of the West's march to California.

https://www.antiquemapsandprints.com/products/head-of-the-mountain-goat-female-desert-bighorn-ewe-lower-gila-emory-1848-p-6-112581
