A red dotted line encloses the area devastated by fire around the marked hypocentre, and eight captioned photographs show the ruins, among them the Industrial Promotion Hall, now the Atomic Bomb Dome, and Aioi Bridge. Beneath lies the new city: the widened avenues, parks and land-readjustment zones decided in autumn 1946, including the Nakajima district that became the Peace Memorial Park.
