Each island is mapped at a useful local scale with settlements, roads, rivers, coastal features and relief, while original outline colour distinguishes the principal territories. The map was compiled chiefly from Colonial Office and Admiralty documents under the administration of Major-General Sir Evan John Murray MacGregor. This is the 1839 parliamentary issue, printed for the House of Commons to accompany Papers Relating to the Labouring Population of the West Indies, rather than the later atlas state.
