Welders, fitters and ‘Ye humorist, ought to be shot on sight!’ crowd the sheet, beside ‘Ye Sludge Spotte’, where ‘doth Hell touch earth with leprous hand’. Signed, apparently by C. H. G. Moorhouse, it is a unique insider’s portrait of Britain’s early oil industry. ‘Ye Galleon Energie’ probably depicts the company’s tanker built in 1928, suggesting 1928–1932, before the refinery closed. The far larger Kent Refinery followed in 1953, and the island is now home to the Grain LNG terminal.

https://www.antiquemapsandprints.com/products/mappe-of-graine-isle-of-grain-oil-refinery-satirical-manuscript-map-kent-c1925-p-6-112762
