THESE 18TH CENTURY ITEMS ARE EXCEPTIONALLY SO.
They are a truly fascinating
record of industrial and commercial processes towards the end of the 18th
century & the machinery, the tools and equipment used. This set covers the
sports of Real tennis & Billiards.
The artists were under the direction of Monsieur Benard
Regretfully I have been unable to translate some of the technical
terms into English, despite the assistance of on-line French-English translation
services ! Please excuse any shortcomings in the translation.

Fine 18th CENTURY COPPERPLATE ENGRAVINGS
A game played on a
rectangular cloth-covered table with raised cushioned edges, in which a cue is
used to hit three small, hard balls against one another or the side cushions of
the table. One of several similar games, sometimes using a table with pockets,
as in pool or snooker. A game played with rackets and a light ball by two
players or two pairs of players on a rectangular court, as of grass, clay, or
asphalt, divided by a net. Also called lawn tennis.
