Havell, Robert

Robert Havell the Elder (1766 or 1769 - 1832) and Robert Havell the Younger (1793-1878), were members of the Havell family of Reading, Berkshire, who included several notable engravers, etchers and painters. The family were among the foremost practitioners of aquatint. Both Roberts, father and son, collaborated on Audubon's Birds of America, seen in America as "perhaps the most significant natural history publication of all time", with Robert the Younger being the principal engraver. Robert junior executed in aquatint the "Geometrical Landscape [map], with Tables of the Relative Altitudes, calculated from the Trinity High Water Mark of the River Thames" (1828), surveyed by Frederick Wood & William Moffat
