Some Background Information About 'Curiosities of Great Britain'
This Book was first printed in London c.1835. It contained County Maps from the Cole and Roper plates, previously published some 25 years earlier in such as the BRITISH ATLAS of 1810. The maps were issued uncoloured. Some 250 small steel engraved views of English and Welsh Counties were also included.
Subsequent editions, issued in the 1840's, contained maps engraved by Joshua Archer of Pentonville, London. These we sometimes uncoloured, sometimes with Outline Colouring and less commonly, with Full Original Colour. As the editions progressed, further views were added and some were omitted. The total number of views remained constant at around 250.
The Welsh County Maps did not appear in every edition and to that extent are comparatively scarce.
THE IMAGES BELOW DEPICT THE VARIOUS STATES OF THE COUNTY MAPS
The maps had an overall size of some 10x8 inches, with an engraved area of c.9x7 inches.

My name is Julie Bennett and I recently retired
to the Bahamas after a career in
education in England.
Jacques Bossuet (1627 - 1704),
the French Bishop & author, wrote that Geography is one of the
principal eyes of History. Such is the fascination of old,
historical maps & engravings, that before emigrating, it became my
hobby to offer
antiquarian
items on eBay & I have decided to resume, hoping to make yet more new
friends.
My offers include a range of collectables, from decorative fine art, topographical views,
pictures and lithographs to rare, scarce vintage ancient & classical county and
country
maps,

books and atlases. I offer many examples of famous artists work and of the engravers art through the
centuries. You will also find cartography from leading mapmakers, geographical topography, memorabilia
& other geographic ephemera for collectors, interior designers & decorators,
genealogy researchers
as well as retail trade customers and frame shops.
Antique maps and prints make unusual & interesting gift ideas and
presents, for birthday, anniversary, children or just for your own
collection & pleasure, be it for home wall decor, den, nursery or office
