William HOGARTH

Born London, 10th December 1697. Died 26th October 1764.

He was educated at St Bees College, in Westmoreland. Moving to London, he was apprenticed to one Ellis Gamble in 1712. His unique style as a satirist and political lampoonist, developed over the succeeding decades. Hogarth's work was published in many editions for a century or more after his death.
