Some Background information about this Publication

This publication shows the nature of life at an elite university and the types of buildings that the students frequent as well as views of and within the town of Cambridge.

The images show how the students are reverent within the chapels (by not wearing their mortar boards), and how they relax in the halls and grounds.

The halls are elaborately decorated, some more than others, showing their relative prestige.

The type of people that the students liase with seem to be of a high standing by the elegant clothes that they wear. This contrasts with the 'ordinary' people of the town shown in the images of the streets.

Each of the individual colleges are represented and the town plan of the city includes the heraldry for each. The churches of Cambridge are also depicted in all their splendour, Great St. Mary's Church being the most elaborate.

The colleges and halls represented are: Caius College, Christ's College, Clare Hall, Corpus Christi College, Jesus College, Pembroke College, Queen's College, St. John's College, St. Peter's College, Trinity College, Trinity Hall, King's College, Magdalen College, Sidney College, Emanuel College, St. Katherine's Hall and Downing College.
