CONTENTS AND DESCRIPTION
The writer has to confess that this is
perhaps his favourite among all those of the 19th century with Steel
engraved plates. The artist,
William Henry
Bartlett, has not only achieved some of the finest examples of detailed
architectural work, but has enlivened so many with fascinating figures and
embellishments, that they re-create life in 19th century English Cities in a
quite outstanding manner.
The high quality engraving was mostly
carried out by Le Keux, who is perhaps better known for his Memorials of
Oxford &
Cambridge. SEE BELOW
