decorative plates. It includes not just the Zodiac shown on the left,
but plans of the Heavens, Constellations and other celestial phenomena.
Published by Cady & Burgess, 60 John
Street, New York. Smith describes himself as 'Principal of Public School No
12, City of New York'. (17th Street, Near 8th Avenue).
Entered by him according to Act of Congress in 1848. His stated objective
was 'to present all the distinguishing principles in physical Astronomy with
