Victor Levasseur's Maps

The first publication of this particular atlas was in 1847. Most of Levasseur's work was produced between 1838 and 1854.

Each map has highly decorated borders which relate to the region depicted. The vignette images are meticulous in design and of an extremely high quality, both in accuracy and composition.

All of these maps are exceptionally attractive to view as well as being useful for informational purposes. In particular to those who are interested in the history of French possessions. The vignettes themselves illustrate events and lifestyles of those who live in the area shown and provide a certain amount of historical information. However, on many of the maps there is also textual information which when translated from the original French, verifies the images with facts and statistics. Some editions show Texas borders as they were during the period of the Texas Republic.
