LOUIS
WILLIAM WAIN
Born in London 5th
August 1860 - Died 4th July 1939.
Wain's mother was French,
his father, English. Until 1879, Wain studied to be a musician.
After studying and
teaching art he was employed by the Illustrated
Sporting & Dramatic News in 1882
and by The
Illustrated London News from 1886.
His first drawing of
CATS in various humorous disguises was in 1883.
In 1907 he went to
the USA where he joined the New York
American for a time. It seems that his Mother wrote any of
the stories that accompanied his illustrations; To quote from Louis Wain's
Summer Book of 1909 - "Dedicated to my Mother, who is responsible for most
of the Stories and Verse in this Book".
Louis WAIN also
contributed to the ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS, of which
these are but a couple of examples - just click the text to view
the images.
A CATS PARTY - 1890 - 11x15.5 inches
OUT FOR AN AIRING - 1893 - 11x15.5 inches
His
contributions to the ILLUSTRATED SPORTING
AND DRAMATIC NEWS were not so prolific, but
we are showing some of them below. The ISDN
is fairly scarce. Prints from this source are only available occasionally.

SOME GIFT IDEAS FROM JULIE
FOR THE HARD TO BUY FOR,
perhaps a map or print of somewhere important in their lives. For example, where
they were born, got married, went on honeymoon etc.
A general search should find that, I do have a wide selection
of topographical views and historical maps.
America's,
UK,
Europe,
Asia,
Africa,
Australia,
The World, Etc.
Or do a search for their last name, you will be surprised
what you might discover.
This of course applies to anniversaries, graduations, births etc. For
example some friends of mine are soon to celebrate their Silver Wedding
Anniversary, so I am having the SILVER BIRCH FLOWER
FAIRY matted & framed for them.
Or for the little person in your life, the Cicely M. Barker Flower Fairy
Alphabet makes a wonderful keepsake if you buy the letters to spell their name.
For instance, the letters below spell M A R
Y !
