TITLE/CONTENT OF MAP: 'London Wall - Guildhall - Gresham Street - Love Lane - Aldermanbury - Basinghall Street - Wood Street' (Guildhall EC2V)

These very scarce maps were prepared by the civil engineering firm Charles Goad and Co for insurance and related purposes. The circulation of these plans amongst insurance companies, fire brigades and other interested parties was strictly controlled by Goad on a rental basis, and apparently never sold. They were revised and updated, sometimes for decades after publication. Many of these maps show Second World War bomb damage (Buildings damaged or destroyed by bombs are marked green), and later post-war redevelopment. They provide a historical insight into the changing landscape of the City during the middle decades of the twentieth century.

DATE PRINTED: Originally printed in 1961; overlaid with later revisions

IMAGE SIZE: Approx 63.0 x 53.0cm, 24.75 x 20.75 inches (Large)

CONDITION: Good; suitable for framing. The map is a typical example of a Charles Goad insurance plan. It was a working reference map which was extensively handled and updated with overlays to reflect changes in configuration and use over time. As a result of their history, these maps often have some light soiling, the use of glue in the overlays has usually resulted in some warping to the surface (ie they are rarely completely flat), and the edges are often a little frayed. Please check the image. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase. Please contact us if you would like to arrange to view this map. Virtually all antiquarian maps and prints are subject to some normal aging due to use and time which is not obtrusive unless otherwise stated. We offer a no questions asked return policy.

AUTHENTICITY: This is an authentic historic map, published at the date stated above. It is not a modern copy.

VERSO: There is another Goad map printed on the reverse side (sheet number 20). The map is printed on thick card, and the printing on the reverse side does not show through to the front
