Letts, Thomas

Thomas Letts (1804-1873) was a London publisher, stationer, printer and mapseller. In 1816 his father John Letts published the first commercially produced diary, which Thomas popularised through the publication of a wide range of pocket and specialist diaries and calendars, which became ubiquitous in Victorian England. He was the agent for the Ordnance Survey and the Geological Survey. He acquired and updated the engraved map plates which had been used for the earlier SDUK (Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge) atlas - these were reprinted in various editions of "Letts's Popular Atlas" in the 1880's, of which we have a good stock. The plates were later sold to Mason & Payne.
