Bertius, Petrus

Petrus Bertius (also Peter, Pierre or Pieter) (1565-1629) was a Flemish philosopher, theologian, historian, geographer but now best known as a cartographer. Published Tabularum Geographicarum Contractarum, Amsterdam (from 1600), which was the re-written Latin edition of Barent Langenes' Caert Thresoor, originally published in Dutch in 1598; the work contained upwards of 170 small maps described by Koeman as "extremely well-engraved: neat and clear, elegantly composed". He was the brother-in-law of Jodocus Hondius.
