Campaign maps from the official History of the Second World War sit beside flags, naval and military insignia and a mid-century Gas Council advertisement in this collection from HMSO. His or Her Majesty's Stationery Office was the British government's publishing organisation, and its maps and prints here span the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. They served very different official purposes, from explaining military operations to recording visual standards and addressing the public, and their original context helps in reading the symbols and captions.
