Jones, Robert Trent

Robert Trent Jones Sr. (1906-2000) was a British-American golf course architect who designed or re-designed more than 500 golf courses in 45 U.S. states and 35 countries. Born in England to Welsh parents, his family emigrated to the United States when he was five, arriving in New York Harbour aboard the Steamship Caronia in 1912 two weeks after the Titanic had sunk. His is the classic American story of Ellis Island to self-made man. Starting in the game as a caddy at the Rochester Country Club, he rose to become the world's most famous golf course architect and the chief author of America's national championship golf courses. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1987.
