Kemp, Dixon
Dixon Kemp (1839–1899) was a prominent British naval architect, yachtsman, and writer, widely regarded as one of the foremost authorities on yacht design and sailing in the 19th century. His seminal work, A Manual of Yacht and Boat Sailing, first published in 1878, became the definitive handbook for amateur sailors and designers alike. Containing an extensive series of boat and yacht design plans, it went through numerous editions, reflecting its enduring influence and the rapid development of yachting during the Victorian era. Kemp’s contributions helped formalise yachting as both a sport and a science, and his manual remains a classic in maritime literature.
