L'Isole Piu Famose del Mondo

Tomaso Porcacchi’s L'Isole Più Famose del Mondo, first published in Venice in 1572, is one of the earliest dedicated island atlases of the Renaissance and a landmark in the Isolario tradition. Illustrated with finely engraved maps by Girolamo Porro, the work presents a series of elegantly designed small-format maps accompanied by descriptive Italian text, blending classical geography with contemporary exploration. It was reissued in expanded editions in 1576, 1590, and 1620, with the 1576 edition notably adding 17 new maps. Printed by various Venetian publishers including Simone Galignani de Karera and Giorgio Angelieri, the atlas is highly prized today for its artistic engraving.
