Scottish Reform Act boundary report

Reports upon the Boundaries of the Several Cities, Burghs, and Towns in Scotland, in Respect to the Election of Members to Serve in Parliament, ordered to be printed by the House of Commons, forms part of the official documentation accompanying the Scottish Reform Act of 1832. Commonly referred to as the Scottish Reform Act Boundary Report, this volume contains detailed assessments and proposals for the definition and adjustment of parliamentary boundaries across Scottish burghs and towns. Prepared by appointed commissioners, the report includes textual descriptions, plans, and maps, setting out the rationale for revised constituencies aimed at remedying imbalances in representation and ensuring a fairer distribution of seats. Like its counterpart for England and Wales, it was a key instrument in the modernisation of the United Kingdom’s electoral geography, and remains an essential source for understanding Scottish political reform and 19th-century boundary delineation.
