Black in 1906. Old houses and cathedral closes appear in Burgos, León, Pamplona and Salamanca, with particular attention to bridges and the approaches to towns, while the Deva gorge, the Pajares pass and the valleys towards Galicia supply the mountain country between them. His journey also reaches south to Toledo, Cáceres and Mérida, further than the title suggests, and markets, patios, gateways and village streets recur throughout.
