A map from the dawn of the James Bond phenomenon: the 1962 auction sale catalogue for Woodlands Park, Iver Heath, offered by Collins & Collins & Rawlence as “an outstanding residential and sporting property” of about 65 acres. The illustrated particulars describe a Georgian-origin country house with reception rooms, billiard room, six principal bedrooms, cottages, outbuildings, gardens, paddocks, lake and river frontage, and note earlier associations with Sir Richard Fairey, Lord Curzon, King Edward VII and King Victor Emmanuel of Italy. The auction took place on 22 October 1962, fourteen days after Dr. No's cinematic release. The property was bought at the sale by John Dennis Bennett, the present cataloguer’s grandfather, who, according to family tradition, outbid Harry Saltzman, co-producer of the newly released Bond film and then seeking a family house near Pinewood Studios. Following the success of the early Bond films, Saltzman returned with what family lore remembers as “an offer too good to refuse” and acquired Woodlands Park from Bennett. Alan Whicker later interviewed Saltzman there for The World of James Bond, the Whicker’s World documentary made around You Only Live Twice. With photographic plates and a folding coloured estate plan, this is an unusually evocative survival linking Home Counties country-house life, Pinewood, and the birth of the Bond phenomenon.

Items smaller than A4 size are usually packed in a stiffened, board-backed envelope. Larger items are rolled and packed in postal tubes. Large items which are too stiff to be rolled in wide-diameter tubes are mailed in all-board envelopes.
