Bacon’s Plan of Bristol—Clifton, harbour & Temple Meads folding city map c1928
SKU: P-6-112553
Bacon’s [Large Scale] Plan of Bristol
Bristol’s working harbour and railway approaches stand out within this large, colourful undated street plan, extending across Clifton, Cotham, Easton and Ashton Gate. Green open spaces, yellow main roads and blue water make the city’s structure easy to follow, while the six-inch scale gives individual streets and institutions room to breathe. The Portway is named and coloured as a main road along the Avon Gorge: its opening in July 1926 is a useful clue to the map’s likely publication date. Temple Meads, St Philip’s station and the Tramways Power Station preserve other features of the interwar city. Bacon’s E.C.4 address supplies an earlier, post-1917 limit.
