'Baker Street, from Oxford Street to Regent’s Park and St. John’s Wood'
A perspective map view of Baker Street and the parallel Gloucester Place from Oxford Street through Marylebone to Regent’s Park, where it meets Park Road, and St John’s Wood, showing one of London’s most celebrated thoroughfares. At the lower edge are Oxford Street and Portman Square, with surrounding terraces and streets such as Orchard Street, Granville Place and Somerset Street clearly marked. Moving northwards, Baker Street passes Manchester Square with Hertford House, Blandford Street and George Street, while nearby stand Portman Chapel, Montagu House and Portman Square Gardens. Further away lies Dorset Square and Marylebone Road, with Baker Street Station prominently shown. Beyond, the road leads directly into Regent’s Park, depicted in detail with the Zoological Gardens, the Royal Botanic Gardens, the South Villa and the Inner Circle. To the northwest are St John’s Wood, Lords Cricket Ground and St John’s Wood Chapel, together with surrounding villas and crescents. The map is both decorative and practical, balancing architectural detail with a clear street pattern, and highlights Baker Street’s transition from the commercial bustle of Oxford Street to the villas, gardens and institutions of Marylebone, Regent’s Park and St John’s Wood in the late Victorian era.
