Couronnement du Roi de Juida, au mois d'Avril 1723. Tiré de Des Marchais [Coronation of the King of Whydah, in the month of April 1723. From des Marchais]
The Coronation shown is that of King Haffon, who became King of Whydah in 1708. He was not crowned in a formal ceremony at Savi until April 1725. His coronation party included 40 of his favorite wives. The date stated on the print varies from that given in the sourced referred to: 1725 is the date given by Chevalier des Marchais, although some modern scholars argue it occurred in 1717-1718.
