'Carte des vins de Bourgogne'
A midcentury illustrated map of the Bourgogne (Burgundy) wine region of France. A key on the left identifies the main subregions and the main red and white wine classifications, including Auxerre, Chablis, Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Côtes de Nuits, Hautes Côtes de Beaune, Côtes de Beaune, Mercurey, Maconnais, and Beaujolais. The individual appellations d'origins (AOCs) are underlined in red. The border features portraits of notable historical figures such as Jacques Amyot, Restif de la Bretonne, Colette, and Vauban. The top-centre displays the Bourgogne coat of arms with a phrase which roughly ttranslates as "To the glory of Burgundy wines, for which world toasts the health of France." Decorative elements include edible snails (for which the region is also famous), vines & grapes. The map is unsigned and undated. Others date this map as early as 1950, however the identification of the underlined AOCs and their dates of establishment clearly establishes the publication date of this map as between 1972 (date of establishment of Nuits Saint Georges AOC) and 1975 (no reference to Cremant de Bourgogne). The 14 Burgundy commune AOCs established in 1970 are all identified as such.
