Hitlerowskie obozy koncentracyjne i ośrodki zagłady na ziemiach polskich w latach 1939–1945 [Nazi concentration camps and extermination centres on Polish lands in the years 1939–1945]
This map identifies the principal concentration camps and extermination centres established on occupied Polish territory, including Auschwitz-Birkenau, Treblinka, Sobibór, Bełżec, Majdanek, and Chełmno. The legend differentiates between main concentration camps, their sub-camps, and extermination facilities, and includes a detailed key illustrating prisoner classification badges used within the camp system. Concentration camps functioned as sites of indefinite detention, forced labour, terror, and systematic persecution under SS authority; prisoners included political detainees, Jews, Roma, Soviet POWs, and others deemed undesirable by the regime. Extermination centres, by contrast, were constructed specifically for industrialised mass murder, with victims typically killed shortly after arrival. The marked concentration of sites in Upper Silesia and the Lublin district reflects their central role in the implementation of genocide and mass repression between 1939 and 1945.
