[Der Nürburgring—Sonderkarte 1:20 000—mit formenplastischer Geländedarstellung / Special map with three-dimensional/relief-style terrain depiction]
Detailed topographical map of the Nürburgring, showing the Nordschleife in its celebrated late-1960s Formula One heyday: after the 1967 Hohenrain chicane addition, before the 1970–73 safety works that smoothed jumps, eased corners and added Armco, and long before the 1982–84 rebuilding of the start/finish and Südschleife area. This was Jackie Stewart’s “Green Hell”: a 22.8 km mountain circuit whose length, blind crests, changeable weather and limited access made modern F1 safety increasingly impractical. A year after this map’s publication, a threatened drivers’ boycott forced the 1970 German Grand Prix to Hockenheim. It returned in 1971, but by the mid-1970s marshal, medical and television requirements had become prohibitive. Lauda’s fiery 1976 crash near Bergwerk, after his unsuccessful call for a boycott, ended F1 on the old Nordschleife.
