'Euston Road and Marylebone Road, King’s Cross to Paddington'
A perspective map view along the Euston Road and Marylebone Road from King’s Cross to Paddington, depicting the key railway termini and surrounding districts of Fitzrovia, Marylebone and Lisson Grove. At the lower edge stand King’s Cross and St Pancras Stations, with their imposing façades and adjoining hotels, together with the older King’s Cross monument. Nearby are Gray’s Inn Road, Caledonian Road, Argyle Square and Somers Town, while Euston Station and its great Doric arch are shown further west and set back from the Euston Road. The broad sweep of Marylebone Road continues past Dorset Square and Baker Street Station towards Marylebone Station and Paddington, with Edgware Road forming the western boundary. To the north stretches Regent’s Park, prominently drawn with the Inner Circle, Botanic Gardens, Zoological Gardens and surrounding villas, while beyond lie Hampstead Road, Albany Street and the residential crescents of St John’s Wood and Maida Vale. The map emphasises London’s great late nineteenth-century transport interchanges, placing them within the broader urban setting of grand squares, churches and terraces.
