The Funeral Procession of His Late Royal Highness, Edward Duke of York and Albany [Nov. 3, 1767]
The Funeral Procession of His Late Royal Highness, Edward, Duke of York and Albany marked the formal funeral of Prince Edward, the younger brother of King George III. Born in 1739, Edward held the titles Duke of York and Albany and Earl of Ulster, granted in 1760. He pursued a career in the Royal Navy and was known for his sociable and charismatic nature. While traveling through Monaco during a European tour, Edward fell ill and died on September 17, 1767, at the age of 28. His body was returned to London for a grand state funeral, held on November 3, 1767, which included an elaborate procession reflecting his royal status. The event, attended by the public and featuring military and ceremonial displays, ended at Westminster Abbey, where Edward was interred.
